Connect ChatGPT to Nora

Add Nora as a read-only MCP connector and ask ChatGPT about your own financial data.

ChatGPT by OpenAI supports the Model Context Protocol (MCP), which lets it connect directly to your bank accounts through Nora. Here’s how to set it up in under 5 minutes.

How to connect

Add the Nora server to ChatGPT

Follow the steps below to paste your Nora MCP server URL into ChatGPT. It works the same on ChatGPT web and desktop.

Turn on Developer mode

Enable Developer mode using the settings available in your ChatGPT account. In a managed workspace, an administrator may need to enable it or grant access. The location can vary; consult OpenAI’s current Developer mode guidance if it is missing.

Open Plugins

Back in ChatGPT Settings, open Plugins and choose the plus button beside the search field.

Create the Nora plugin

Name the plugin Nora, paste the Server URL below, select OAuth as the authentication method, acknowledge the custom-server warning and choose Create. The icon is optional — download the Nora one if you want it.

Sign in to Nora

Choose Sign in with Nora and use the Nora account that contains the data you want to ask about.

Approve read-only access

Review the access screen, then choose Allow read-only access. The scopes you approve determine what ChatGPT can request.

Ask your question

Start a new ChatGPT chat and ask about your spending, balances or transactions. Mention Nora if ChatGPT does not select the connector automatically.

Connect your bank accounts

Create a Nora account to securely link your bank accounts and credit cards through Plaid. Nora is currently free and you don’t need a card.

Start your message with @Nora and ask about your money. ChatGPT uses your current Nora records to answer questions about spending, balances and debts.

If something goes wrong

If Developer mode or custom plugins are missing, your ChatGPT plan or workspace may not expose them.
If the sign-in window does not open, allow pop-ups and retry. Confirm that the Server URL is exactly https://mcp.nora-fi.com/mcp.
If Nora has no data to show, check that your account connection has finished importing in Nora. ChatGPT reads only data already available there.
Remove or disconnect Nora from ChatGPT’s connector settings to stop future access.
